Usage: Erythromycin is indicated for treating superficial ocular infections of the conjunctiva and cornea caused by susceptible organisms. It also serves as prophylaxis for ophthalmia neonatorum due to *N. gonorrhoeae* or *C. trachomatis*, although its effectiveness against penicillinase-producing *N. gonorrhoeae* is unestablished.

It contains an anti-infective component effective against common bacterial eye pathogens while not adequately covering certain strains like Serratia marcescens and Streptococcus pneumoniae.
